General Update

Its been almost a month from the last update. There has been a flurry of activities happening in the school. Especially in the Sports and dance departments. Our kids got selected for district and zonal competitions in volleyball. They won prizes in roller skating competitions. They won two prizes at a dance competition. They would have won all the prizes, had all the participating teams from other schools followed rules. But, next year, we’ll get wiser!

On the academics side, we are administering revision tests. The exams for KG are from the 17th to the 22nd and for primary they are from 23rd to the 26th October. Diwali vacation is from the 27th October to the 18th of November. Open house for KG, Std.1 and Std.2  is on the 24th of November, and for Std.3 to Std.9 is on the 25th of November.

As usual, there are lots of developments in the pipeline to be done in the Diwali vacations. A lot of cosmetic changes will be seen after the school reopens on  the 19th of November!

Teachers Day!

We, being different from anyone else, decided to give the teachers a rest on Teachers Day. No no – we didn’t declare a holiday (that would be too cliche) – we decided that the 10th Std kids would go teach the whole school! And what a terrific idea that turned out to be! The 10th kids had a blast teaching, while the rest of the children had a great time learning from them. The 10th kids got to know how difficult it is to teach, how difficult it is to maintain discipline, and how difficult it is to manage the school. Manage the school? Yes, some of the students were from the Management too! And that included Dr. Phatak, Mrs. Phatak, Mrs. Modak (our admin), Sachin kaka, Baban kaka (our admin support staff). Boy – were they tired by the end of the day. But – overall it was a great day – the 10th std. kids made a great impact on the other kids. They taught beautifully (we monitored), and made sure the other kids didn’t feel uncomfortable.

ECS for fee payment – Std.1 to Std.10.

The next installment of fees for standards 1 to 10 is due on 13th October. As discussed earlier, this and the last installment ( due on 5th January 2008 ) would have to be paid through ECS or by cash. No cheques will be accepted. A printed form is sent to you. Please fill the relevant information on the form and take the form to your bank and get it signed by the official from the bank. You will have to submit one copy of the form to the school, and one copy of the form to your bank official.

The same procedure should be followed for Kangaroo Kids. Kangaroo Kids has attached a similar form. The company has requested us to send this message with our notice. Kangaroo Kids has also asked us to inform you that the fee charged here is on standard basis ( upto 6 km from school ) and additional fee for those who reside at a place beyond 6 km will be conveyed by Kangaroo Kids very soon and is to be paid separately by cash.

The last date for submission of the forms to the school is 10th September 2007.

Please note that there is no extra charge for the ECS facility.

Punishment for not speaking in English

We’ve recently announced this rule. Anyone seen talking in any language other than English in the school premises, or even in the van, gets a punishment and will NOT be allowed to participate in the Annual Day. The punishment varies from writing 5 essays to no sports for a week.

We are taking this punishment very seriously and hope the parents take this up seriously too.

Awesome Scholarship Result

This just came in. Two of our students secured the scholarship in the 4th std group! Mahimna Kelkar came 3rd, and Sayali Bapat came 10th in Pune (Of course, we don’t need to mention that all others passed with flying colours).

This is great news! All the hard of the children paid off! We hope to increase the number year after year. It gives us a great sense of accomplishment – especially because we train the children a lot for these exams.

I shall post some of Mahimna’s and Sayali’s thoughts once I meet them. For now, they are celebrities in the school and are enjoying the limelight!

Vacation for Std.10 begins

We called the students of Std.10 for extra lectures after their final exams. We taught them a few things – and now its vacation time for them. Well, not exactly a vacation – they have loads of work to do in this free time! This is our first 10th Std batch, so we are expecting a lot from these kids! Sometimes we do go overboard. But, its for their own good – so I guess thats OK!

Summer Vacation begins!

Its that time of the year when the kids have mixed feelings – tense for the exams and excited for the summer vacation! Summer vacation for the kids starts from the 6th of April upto the 10th of June.

Parents – please make sure you have given the first installment of fees. The deadline for that is 28th April 2007. Also make sure that you have ordered the uniform, so that you get it when you come to pay the fees.

Happy Holidays! By the time you come to school in June, you will see many changes!

Suryanamaskar for kids

At Millennium, we always encourage our kids to be fit. As a part of this exercise, we decided to ask the kids to do some Surya Namaskars at home in the summer vacation. We have given them a sheet with dates on it, so that they can count the Namaskars that they do and get a parent to sign for it.

We have even uploaded a reference video on how to do this exercise and how to breathe during this exercise. You can find it here

This is an experiment we are conducting for Std.3. If it works, then we will implement it for all the classes that we have.
