Happy turnout at the Std 1 to 4 Parents’ Sports Day

Nostalgic. . . . is what most of the parents who turned up for the Std 1 to 4 sports day felt as they assembled on the ground. Parents in huge numbers were present on that day to participate in the games being conducted, much to the joy of the Sports staff of Millennium.

The sports arena, uniformly watered and marked, stood confidently to host all the parents. Being on the ground in itself felt energetic. The lively morning assembly of parents and children, started with the National Anthem and hoisting of the school flag. Sports Incharge – Mr. Ramdas Lekawale briefed the parents about the various competitions and their venues.

The parent-child duo tackling with the individual games like hopping over the cones, ball passing drill, dribbling drill etc. was a treat to watch. The instructions being exchanged, parent to child and vice-versa revealed the openness and the command in their relationship.

The cheerful atmosphere continued with the team games of Volley ball and Throw ball.

The much awaited event of the day for the students – the prize distribution took place at the hands of our Director Mr. Anvit Phatak, Vice Principal Secondary Mrs. Sujata Kulkarni, Vice Principal Primary Mrs. Swati Sardesai. Anvit Sir appreciated the parents for their huge response and stated that such events prepare a strong foundation to the parent-school bonding in Millennium.

The entire Sports Staff were efficiently handling the whole event, right from the enquiry desks, giving out instructions, coaching the parents, judging the matches and organizing the prize distribution.

Kudos to the Sports Staff, parents and children for making this Sports Day a part of the memoir!

Senior KG parents in ‘chak de’ spirit at the Sports Day!

After a meagre response from the parents at the Nursery & Jr. KG Sports Day, the Sports Department made an appeal to the parents of Sr. KG for maximum participation. The department also made some changes at their end, like, providing coaches for individual as well as team games, naming the teams to cheer them up better etc. . . . .
. . . . and the appeal worked. We did receive a good response. Great start Senior KG parents!

At the start of the event the school flag was hoisted by one of our senior teachers Mrs. Madhura Kale, after which Sports Incharge Mr. Ramdas Lekawale announced the schedule of the day. The schedule for this sports day, was mostly the same as the last one.

All the parents who were present, participated in one or the other activity, maximum participation was seen for the running race.

The parents didn’t lose their zeal and participated in big numbers for the team events of Volleyball and Throwball which were conducted for men and women respectively. The matches were played with passion and in a good sporting spirit!

The tiny tots from Senior KG, who were the prize-winners for various events like Storytelling, Fancy Dress and other sports competitions, were felicitated at the hands of our Vice Principal Mrs. Swati Sardesai and Mrs. Madhura Kale. The lil’ ones seemed really glad to be on the podium and receive the prizes. The jubilant parents were also felicitated at the event.

Parents appreciated the concept of the event and felt it was good to be at once in the shoes of their children, playing on the ground without any worries.
Kudos to the Sr. KG parents for making the event successful!

Millennium hosts the Akshay Bhosale Senior District Basketball Championship

After hosting the Indian School Basketball League last year, we learnt that the upcoming players from the school get greatly benefited by merely watching and studying the techniques of the game.

Very few players get the opportunity in their amateur stage to witness the game of senior players to acquire the tricks of the trade.

With this in mind, we went a step ahead and organized the 1st Akshay Bhosale Senior District Basketball Championship in our school, in association with the Pune District Basketball Association. This tournament was for senior players in Men & Women category. A total of 12 teams participated in the men’s category & 6 teams in the women’s category; which included many National and International players.

The school players made it a point to grab the golden opportunity of watching the game of these senior players. All the students enjoyed the tournament as they got to witness it live. The students did thank the sports department for organizing such a tournament, coz, they said they got to learn a lot from the experts.

Nursery and Jr. KG parents try their hands at Sports!

The concept of a day of sports for parents came into inception with the parents of Nursery and Junior KG. A foggy morning with a hint of chill in the air made an apt start to the day, as the entire Sports department was all set for the inauguration of the event. Parents trickled-in in groups to enjoy the event.

As the school flag, hoisted by KG coordinator Mrs. Rakhi Tanawade, stood high on the flag-pole, Sports Incharge, Mr. Ramdas Lekawale announced the schedule for the entire event.

Parents’ enthusiasm knew no bounds as almost all of them participated and gave their best at the running competition. Running served as a good warm-up, after which they were all set for the team events of Volleyball and Throwball which they played for a full and final set of 25 points.

The prize-winning children for all the events (sports and curricular) held at Nursery and Junior KG were felicitated along with the winning parents at the day’s competitions. International Basket Ball players – Ms. Shruti Menon and Ms. Shruti Sherigar felicitated the children and parents, in the presence of our Director Mr. Anvit Phatak and Principal Mrs. Radhika Vaidya.

The event entirely hosted by the Sports Department received first hand feedback from the parents. To share a few: Mr. Sachin Chidrewar said, “The environment was very good and friendly for events and we enjoyed a lot”. Mrs. Namrata Bhosale doubled it saying, “This is a very good idea. We enjoyed a lot, just like our childhood!”

Most of them did state the fact that they were expecting a lot more participation.

We would also like to host a good number at the Sr. KG event. That will surely make it more remarkable!

Masti@Diwali Carnival

Photo 1 Photo 2

The evening of 6th November was the eve of the traditional Diwali Carnival which was inaugurated by lighting of the auspicious lamp at the hands of our own Directors Anvit Sir and Arpita ma’am. The family and friends of those who are a part of Millennium, were left awestruck with the mesmerizing displays of Killas, Rangolis, Diyas and Lanterns, all prepared by their own kids.

The special attraction of the eve was the cultural parade with dhol, tasha, jhanj and lezim where the students passed a social message of saving water and working towards the worrying situation of the farmers.

Extra Photo 6

Since 3-4 days ahead of the Carnival, the ambience of the school draped a make-over of colours as the kids celebrated “Masti@Diwali Carnival”.

Various activities like Loom Band / Quilling Arts, Remote Control Car racing, Beyblade battles, Nail Art were scheduled for the students. The kids engaged themselves in the activities that they liked. They not only had fun doing the ‘masti-activities’, but also made their teachers take part in those.

Some teachers got their nails painted, some were wearing the beautiful loom band-jewellery made by the kids. The teachers and the kids moved around in the corridors dodging the remote controlled cars running around here and there. In addition, some workshops like Cubes and Origami were also conducted by the expert-students.

All the ‘masti-activities’ did obviously get an awesome response, but yes, the kids also crowded for the traditional activities like Diya decoration, Lantern making, Killa making and cooking.

We really had fun watching all these activities for the entire week and hope you did too at the Carnival!

Toddlers take the walk at the fancy dress…

The much awaited Fancy Dress Competition was much more than just a display of costumes and makeup by our sweet little wonders.

For Nursery, it was a battle of ideas and innovations and seemed more like a competition. It was a highly creative flow of things in their immediate surroundings like vegetables, fruits, animals and birds. There were popular figures like Spiderman, Krish, Thor, Chhota Bheem and Doraemon and traditional figures such as Warkari, Mansa, Krishna and Jhansi ki Rani. The elephant was not forgotten either. It was like being on the battle ground of wits and charm!

Jr. KG displayed community helpers, save our trees, traditional figures, hygiene and popular figures such as Milkha Singh that won much applause. No doubt, they were getting there by not seeing this as competition but contribution!

Finally Senior KG came up with the message that addressed the need of the hour, something we all waited for and needed to listen well to… Some amongst them were – Save our mother earth and global warming! Personal hygiene, the 3-Rs Reuse Reduce & Recycle, Keeping the city clean, Say NO to plastic, Save Trees and Go Green, Save Water, kill air and noise pollution. “Happy Man” took the cake because kids value the fact that being happy is the most important thing in the world. It is only when you’re happy that things work out for you and not vice-versa.

This kind of value-based education for all the kids in the world is becoming imperative now. This was a transcendence from competition to a pure flow of positive energy with a place for everybody!

All the kids seemed to be so confident that they actually transported you into the world of all the characters. It was clear that bringing out confidence in the kids was the main purpose of this fancy dress show, so that they may grow up to become responsible citizens. The kids are surely learning very well and there’s so much hope for a sustainable society!

Last but not the least, the Fancy Dress competition stood for the parent-child bonding and the role it plays in boosting a child’s confidence. The nature of the competition was such that winning was important but participating was more important. It was a pleasure seeing all the tiny tots in different charming attires. Kudos to the parents for all their efforts!

KG celebrates the term end party “Diwali” style

On the last day before the Diwali vacation, 6th November, the KG building entrance was draped with different themes of Diwali – Vasubaras, Bhau Beej, Laxmi poojan, and Padwa. To make it even more colourful – that too the ecological way – the centre porch was decorated with all waste materials like crayons, crayon crush, pencils, erasers, pencil carvings, painting brushes and sharpeners. Cute little diyas made by the kids were also used as a part of the decoration.

The kids came in traditional dresses which made the ambience look even more beautiful. They danced merrily to the tunes of Diwali songs, and had ‘Diwali pharal’ as snacks. To uplift the spirit of Diwali, children were shown short films like Raavana-vadh. They were then given a chance to try their hands on making rangolis.

It was indeed a fun-filled Diwali party celebrated in a ‘dhamakedar’ style. The kids not just learned about our tradition but also enjoyed the spirit of it all. Different classes had prepared different styles of lanterns which the kids took home on this day after wishing their teachers and friends a very “Happy Diwali” and bidding each other a long farewell.
