In addition to that we develop a sporting nature, we appreciate each others efforts without considering whether the other is a friend or a foe, we value hard work, honesty and fair play. The sport was introduced to him two years ago in school. He loved it, got hooked on to it and now plays at district level! Kartik is all praises for the basics in fitness and badminton workouts introduced in the school. They acted as the foundation for my practice, he adds. For the last two years, he has been additionally training at VKB Academy and travels more than 12 kms everyday for his practice sessions. Kartik practices for 5 hours daily and never misses a class! In whatever little time I have, I need to study hard, he says.
A national level Tennis player, Neha has been playing for the last five years.What started as a hobby is now a passion and way of life for her. As her parents play tennis too, she was exposed to it early. She discovered that she enjoyed the game and wanted to take it to the next level, so she started to compete. Neha trains at Pashan and practices 4 hours every single day. In her free time, she loves to read. Neha thinks sports keeps her focused on studies.
Shivkumar thinks tennis is the best sport in the whole world, which tells us his love and passion for the game. He started training three years back at the Deccan Gymkhana. His practice sessions last for 90 minutes daily. He says sports not only keeps him fit but also is a good entertainment. Shivkumar remarks that the exercise and sports routine in school helped him increase in fitness levels for tennis. Because I was used to a workout I could excel in the game, he said.
Ashnaa has won at the state level swimming competitions. She has been swimming for last 5 years and trains at Kothrud. Swimming in school was a great morale booster for Ashnaa. When my friends were struggling , I was already pro and that felt nice, she says. She adds that the school swimming activity gave her the chance to enjoy the game more as it was different
than the daily workout. I practice for two hours every day. Be it any season, every evening we are in the pool, she says. Ashnaa loves the water ..but its a lot of hard work, she remarks quickly adding that she enjoys the challenge.
His training in rifle shooting began at home with his father. Mohit had access to a shooting range and a professional coach as a father. Mohit started in SrKG, when his father got a special gun especially made for him. He says the school played an important role in the inculcating importance of fitness and sports. Mohit has participated in the Under14 -10 meters, shooting and earned a silver medal at the zonal competitions.
Meghraj has captained the School Basketball Team. He gives the school and his coach Ramdas credit for building his liking for the game. When Meghraj started playing basket ball in his 5th , he looked at it as a casual sport, but he proved his mettle by excelling in the game. He took it up competitively and played interschool. He practices for 3 hours every day without fail. Playing through Vidyanchal club, Meghraj honed his play. He excelled in the games and qualified for state level.
