The Kindergarten section of Millennium National School was all chatter and laughter on the morning of 14th August, 2014 at 10 am as it celebrated the 68th Independence Day. It’s amazing how our teacher Mrs. Mukta Deshpande had her finger on the pulse of the kindergarten students and made them laugh and warm up to the event. The approach was terrific, in the sense that it prepared students to grasp the event most aptly.
The teacher, Mrs. Mukta Deshpande made a superb opening with humour which had the children laughing in splits. She was verbally tickling them throughout and that kept their attention alive. She began with a question and asked the children if they knew what independence means. Then she answered that independence means you can do anything however you want or wish.
She went on to explain how the Indians, who were totally fed up with the British Rule, fought back and got a free India. Then they went on to salute all the freedom fighters and sang the National Anthem “Jana Gana Mana” and ended with a full-throated “Bharat Mata ki Jai”. Next lined-up was a small video about our Independence Day. Hands folded and attentive, they were all eyes for the different scenes from the famous burning of Swaraj movement, the Jalianwala baug killing and the Dandi March. India was shown as the land of music and secularism. The children went ecstatic when they saw the Indian flag, exhibiting their innate patriotism. Kudos to the Kindergarten children! They know that they belong to India.
The event was interspersed with an occasional drill to keep the children awake and with other class management techniques. Then came the cherry on the icing, a delightful presentation by Senior KG Students. Three boys and two girls, totally paperless, with smiling and happy faces took the stage by storm with their extempore speech delivered so confidently. The teachers managed the children beautifully with their gentle persuasion. Together, they sang a song “Nanha Munha Rahi”. It was vibrant and rhythmic and the children were totally synchronized with the teachers as they shouted “Bharat Mata ki Jai” with utmost lungpower.
They presented a greeting card to Mrs. Neha Anvit Phatak, who said a very gracious “Happy Independence”. Mrs Mukta Deshpande closed the event with a vote of thanks to all the teachers for managing the children, to the photographers for capturing the event so beautifully and to the children for making it a memorable day for everybody.
This just goes to prove that you need both hands to clap. The school is a family and it takes every member of the school to make an event a smashing success.
