200 parents participated actively in Std. 5-8 Parents’ Sports Day

Once again, a happy turnout of parents at the Parents Sports Day for Std. 5 to 8. 200 parents participated and exhibited great response!

To make it more interesting for parents, individual games this time were changed to musical chair and obstacle race, which the parents enjoyed thoroughly, with childlike glee. The sports staff provided coaches for team events – Volleyball for men and Throwball for women. After the practice session, the parents played the games in different teams. They took a moment to plan and strategize before the start of the game. Overall it was a great display of sportsmanship on the arena.

Nursery kids actively sort pulses

The process of learning is enhanced when the kids do some related hands-on activities. Activities that are designed, teach the child a lot more than what we can perceive from it. Let’s take sorting of pulses. It teaches the kids fine motor skills, differentiation of colours and shapes, hand-eye co-ordination, pincer grip and also recognition of different pulses. To add, it also can be used as a tool to increase the child’s concentration.

This activity was held in the KG kitchen for the Nursery class. Children were given a bowl of mixed pulses like black-eyed beans (chavali), black pulses (rajma), chick-peas (chhole) and groundnut (shengdane). All different in shape and colour. They had to separate these in four different bowls.

The kids sorted the pulses most cleverly by picking out the black pulses first and then separating the rest according to their shapes…. the sorting was much faster this way. Teachers monitored the activity closely, helping them and praising them for their ‘good job’!

The next time you are cleaning pulses at home, do ask help from your lil’ one.

Sr. KG kids made yummy sprout bhel!

With all the ingredients, minced, chopped, boiled – ready with them, the 5 year olds can too make a tasty dish. Believe it or not, they just made yummy sprout bhel – healthy and tasty!

As the bhel got ready to be served the kids were asked whether they remembered the recipe, and to our surprise, each one of them could revise it in the exact sequential order. They stated that they started with a big steel vessel with some sprouts in it. Then they added some chopped tomatoes, boiled and cut potatoes and chopped onions to it and mixed it well using a big spoon. When asked what brought the taste to the bhel, the kids said that they added some salt, chat masala, cumin powder and also squeezed some lemon in it. And when asked about the green-coloured ingredient, they answered it was cilantro which some added as they thought it looked good and some said it smelled great.

This yummy preparation was then served by the teachers in bowls and was topped with shev to make it yummier. Kids promised that they would make it at home too…. Do try it out once!
