Traditional Celebration of Navaratri and Dussera

The little boys and girls in the KG section celebrated the events of Navaratri and Dussera in a traditional way.

The preparations of Navaratri started a week ahead where the kids prepared different art pieces like Ravana’s face, decorative elephant and even ‘Apatyache pan’.On 19th October, the kids in their best traditional dresses entered the pre- school to see it all decked-up for the Navaratri celebration.

As a part of Navaratri, ‘Bhondla’ was celebrated with great fervor. The tiny tots enjoyed it thoroughly as they echoed the bhondla songs with their teachers. The classes that day were in a total story mode where the children heard the stories about Dussera. On hearing the stories of Ravana-Vadh by Lord Rama & Mahishasura-Vadh by Goddess Durga, the kids realised why Dussera is also called Vijayadashami.

The last event, but obviously not the least was when the kids performed the Pooja of Goddess of knowledge – Goddess Saraswati with true devotion. Their innocence was observed in the prayers that they offered to the Goddess.

Ganpati Bappa Morya!

The Ganesh festival was celebrated for the first time this year with great joy and devotion by all the KG kids. They spent the whole week before Ganapati Vacation listening to Ganpati stories, making Ganpati idol and other articles.

Photo 1

The entrance looked magnificent with the idol of Lord Ganesha decorated with a beautifully lit up diya and colourful flowers. The pictures of Lord Ganesha drawn by the kids made the whole ambience pious.

A small Ganpati procession gave the feel of the festival. The ‘Miravnuk’ had a ‘Palakhi’ with a garlanded picture of Lord Ganesha. Kids danced to the beats of Dhol, Tasha, Zanj and shouted ‘ Ganpati Bappa Morya’.

It was good to see all the kids waiting eagerly near the Idol of Lord Ganesha for the Aarati “Sukhkarta Dukhaharta”. When “Prasad” was distributed the smile on the children’s face said it all.

KG Guru Purnima Celebrations…

The path of life has many ups and downs and it is always very uncertain what will happen next. That is why we need ‘Gurus’ to lead us on the correct path! Hence, Guru Purnima is celebrated to acknowledge the contribution of the teachers. So, who is the first and the most important teacher in everyone’s life? It is their very own mother. Mother is the first and the best teacher. It is rightly said that – “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” It is the mother who sees the first smile on the lips of the child and makes it a permanent one with her teaching.

At Millennium, we celebrated Guru Purnima on Friday, 31th July, 2015 in the KG premises. The day started with an interesting story- telling session to educate the kids about Guru Purnima. The Guru Pournima-special stories were Shamchi aai for Nursery, Eklavya and Dronacharya for Jr. KG and Shivaji Maharaj and Jijabai for Sr. KG. The teachers also explained the importance of a guru in our life. There was the sweet and touching moment when all the KG kids made greeting cards for their mothers, their first guru in life who taught them all the good things. Each card had “Aai Maza Guru” written on the top. Inside the card, the kids were instructed to draw and colour anything to express themselves freely. They drew day to day objects like cakes, houses, flowers, butterfly, streams, landscape, earrings, puppet, lollipops, balloons, snake, crocodile and apple. At the end, they chanted the “Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu” shloka which they had learned in class and sang a song to the Gurus.

Gurus are often equated with God and regarded as a link between the individual and the immortal. Guru’s role in the evolution of men is supremely important. So now we know why Millennium National School has kept alive the lamp of Guru tatva, year after year, to reaffirm its belief and allegiance to the Guru-Shishya “parampara” or tradition. May our Gurus continue to shine and be the guides and the torchbearers of society!

Learning with Lemons…!

To us, a lemon might be a simple piece of fruit, but to our little ones, it represents a whole new world to explore and experience. Kids are sensory beings, and they love to touch, taste, see and smell, so lemons are a perfect fit. We here at Millennium love encouraging kids to be passionate and creative. Since it’s a hot month, it’s the perfect time of the year to make lemonade! The light, fresh scent of lemons is perfect on a summer day. Their bright, yellow color is uplifting too.

A lemonade making activity was held in the KG kitchen on Friday 28th August, 2015. The kids took a steel vessel and poured some drinking water in it from a jug. Then they added sugar and a pinch of salt for taste. After that, the teacher took a lemon, washed it and then cut it into half. The kids put the half cut lemon in the lemon crusher and squeezed the lemon juice into the water. Then they took a big spoon and mixed it. Later, the teacher poured the lemonade in the glasses and the kids enjoyed drinking it. Students had a great time and through this activity they learned to make the fresh lemon drink independently which enhanced the level of confidence in them.

Story Telling Results

Children have an innate love of stories. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder in their world. Stories teach us about life, about ourselves and about others! It generates a sense of confidence and helps improve language skills. Narrating a story in front of students and teachers is not an easy task. Keeping all these things in mind, we held a story telling competition for our Kindergarten kids in the month of September and found out that we have many budding narrators in the making! The results are as follows:
