Students speak … What do you have to say about India’s performance in the Olympics?

Sayali B. – 10th : Lack of proper institutions for sports..
The main concern in India is lack of proper institutions for sports, which are accessible to the common man. Even if a person wants to participate in the Olympics, half his struggle is in convincing the society that he wants to earn a living by playing sports. Instead of encouraging the sportsmen, people oppose them. This bias discourages youngsters to take up sports full time. The society should accept sports as a career and encourage sportsmen.
Richa – 9th: Other countries have huge budgets....
Other countries have huge budgets and meticulous planning for the facilities available for the athletes. They allot separate funds and use them for the welfare of the athletes, which is ultimately the welfare of the country. It is also important to support the sports person financially and improve the infrastructure for a better performance.
Rushikesh N. – 8th : Enough facilities not given by the government..
We have talent but enough facilities are not given by the government. We should participate in more number of games to increase our possibility of a medal.
Manasi M. – 8th : Exposure to a variety of games..
Manasi M. – 8th : More exposure to a variety of games should be provided to the youngsters. Coaching should be made available for all the games so that youngsters will learn new sports.
Abhishek B. – 8th : Our government does not spend..
India is lagging behind because our government does not spend enough to sponsor grounds and training centres, gymnasiums etc. Our talent is wasted and the hard work put in by the athletes does not pay off.
Rohit J. – 8th : Politics with selection of teams..
The government is combining politics with selection of teams, and sportsmen are being used only for advertisements.
Aastha D. – 8th: Coaches not up to international standards..
At times, our coaches are not up to the international standards hence the sports persons are not up to the mark. Talent has to be found from small towns and they should be given good coaching and monetary support. High standard coaches need to be appointed to improve our performance.
Megh D. – 6th : India not a sports loving country..
We are not a sports loving country; we don’t pay attention to sports as much as we do to studies. We take sports not as a career but as entertainment.
Harsh S. – 5th : No seriousness for other games...
In an overly populated country like ours we have the talent but no facilities! Even our Olympic committee is controversial! India is a cricket obsessed nation with no seriousness for other games.
